A new head of communications will be appointed at OMV on April 1, 2022. As Senior Vice President, Sylvia Shin will then be responsible for communications at the Austrian oil, gas and chemicals company and in her role will report directly to Alfred Stern, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of OMV.

In her new position, Ms. Shin succeeds Hans-Peter Siebenhaar, who left the company at the end of November after only six months in office, after Andreas Rinofner had temporarily taken over as head of the communications department. The journalist had been brought into the company by former OMV CEO Rainer Seele as of June 1, 2021, after working for Handelsblatt for many years. Shortly afterwards, Seele had also turned his back on OMV.

OMV is "at the beginning of a major transformation in the direction of chemistry, circular economy and higher sustainability," said OMV CEO Alfred Stern on the occasion of the appointment of the new head of communications. The company is pleased to have recruited Sylvia Shin, a communications expert who "will bring her international cross-industry experience with innovation-driven transformations to this crucial corporate phase," Stern said.

Shin joins from chemical and pharmaceutical company Bayer, where she was vice president of executive communications and strategic PR for the Pharmaceuticals Division worldwide. She has more than 20 years of international experience in corporate communications and public affairs. Before joining Bayern, Shin, who studied business administration in Cologne, worked for Sony, where she was most recently General Manager Corporate Communications, responsible for corporate communications in Europe.
