Pipeline community celebrates 20 years of ptc in Berlin

Industry representatives have gathered in Berlin for the 20th time to discuss the latest innovations. And there is a premiere coming up later this year.

More than 1,000 participants from 60 countries and delegations from over 100 pipeline operators: The 20th Pipeline Technology Conference (ptc) took place in Berlin from May 5 to 8.

In his opening speech, Dennis Fandrich, Chairman of the ptc and member of the Executive Board of the EITEP Institute, looked back on the development of the event: "What began in 2006 as a small industry gathering is now a globally recognized platform for exchange and innovation. The ptc demonstrates how important it is to make knowledge openly accessible – in the spirit of open access. With our ptc Pipeline Open Knowledge Base, we are laying the foundation for this. Because only by learning from each other – from what works and what doesn't – can we continue to develop the industry together."

In 46 sessions, 140 specialist presentations covered a wide range of topics from hydrogen and CO₂ transport to leak detection, digital twins, pipeline construction, and geohazards to artificial intelligence in pipeline operations. In addition to the technical sessions, the conference program included practical training courses and panel discussions on current industry trends, as well as a new edition of the Global Women in Pipeline Forum under the motto “Empowering Women, Engaging Men” and three exclusive roundtables for operators on topics such as ILI technologies, illegal tapping, and the conversion of pipelines for hydrogen. Parallel to the conference, more than 80 companies presented their innovative technologies and services at the ptc exhibition.

“The exhibition hall was completely booked out,” reports Marian Ritter, member of the EITEP Institute's management board and head of the organization team: “A new addition – the Innovation Forum – brought fresh momentum to the central networking area: exhibitors were able to present their solutions live and engage directly with the audience.”

Industry representatives are now eagerly awaiting a premiere scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur this year: From November 11–13, 2025, the Pipeline Technology Conference Asia will be held for the first time – a new regional platform for the Southeast Asian pipeline sector.

The next Berlin edition, the 21st Pipeline Technology Conference, will return to the capital from April 27–30, 2026.
