DGMK annual meeting of the analysts 2023
With a variety of energy carriers, production and application options from modern biofuels and synthetic fuels to CO2-neutral hydrogen, analytics faces complex challenges.
On 22 and 23 June 2023 the highly anticipated 28th annual meeting of analysts took place in Hamburg. After postponed and online events, the focus was now fully on networking on site again. Around 50 experts from science, industry and authorities met for an enthusiastic exchange. The house of the Patriotic Society of 1765 proved to be the perfect setting for this important meeting. Wolfgang Gorek, formerly of TotalEnergies Raffinerie Mitteldeutschland GmbH, chairman of the DGMK expert committee on analytics chaired the event.
Always with the aim of replacing fossil fuels with renewable energies, there are countless questions in application technology. The technical presentations highlighted some of them, e.g. the solubility behaviour of paraffinic diesel fuels, test criteria for additives, fuels for maritime shipping from residue pyrolysis, advanced jet fuels, use of paraffinic fuels in grid replacement systems and, last but not least, the range of analytical methods for determining quality requirements, e.g. of hydrogen.
Legal aspects, e.g. effects of hazardous substance classification, the introduction of a new marking substance for fuel oil labelling and new findings on analytics in connection with benzene and workplace pollution also met with great approval in the lectures.
Last, but not least, quite classical analytical topics rounded off the scientific programme and there were insights into very fast – up to 50 times faster – gas chromatography for petrochemical applications and a fascinating lecture on the structure elucidation of complex mixtures.
