Kerstin Andreae is Energy Manager of the Year

The renowned “Energy Manager of the Year” award from the specialist publisher E&M goes to Kerstin Andreae, Chair of the Executive Board of the German Energy and Water Association (BDEW).

Kerstin Andreae, Chair of the Executive Board of the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW), is “Energy Manager of the Year 2025”. The media publisher Energie & Management (E&M) presents the award to honor outstanding personalities in the energy industry. The winner was chosen by a jury of experts.

Kerstin Andreae is the first association manager to receive the E&M award. As E&M publisher Helmut Sendner notes, Andreae is not a classic energy manager whose success is measured in terms of rising sales and profits. “She is a facilitator for the 2,000 members of BDEW, a pragmatic discussion partner in political debates and in the public eye.

The jury voted by a large majority in favor of Kerstin Andreae. The experts were impressed by the way in which Andreae has led the BDEW through eventful times in recent years. Since the end of Russian gas deliveries, she has played a decisive role in reorganizing gas supply in Germany. In particular, she is committed to transforming heating supply – with a focus on targeted expansion and promotion of municipal heating networks

Great passion for the interests of the industry

Under her leadership, BDEW has continued to develop. A key challenge remains the balance between large energy companies, municipal utilities and municipal suppliers across the entire value chain – from generation and trade to networks and sales.

She says, “In my role as head of the energy industry association, I have the honor of being the voice of our member companies. I am passionate about promoting their interests and working at the interface between business and politics.”

For Professor Christian Held, partner at the law firm Becker Büttner Held and jury member, Andreae has so far shown a sure hand in leading the most important association in the German energy industry.

The award winner was born on October 21, 1968 in Schramberg in the Black Forest. Andreae studied economics at the University of Freiburg and gained her first professional experience in project management and in the field of renewable energies. In 2002, she was elected to the Bundestag as a representative of the Green Party. Since 2019, Andreae has been the managing director of the BDEW.

Andreae will receive the award at the E&M Energy Manager Conference on September 25 in Berlin during the evening event of the E&M Energy Manager Conference. Ingbert Liebing, managing director of the German Association of Local Utilities, will give the laudatory speech. The conference will focus on the relationship between energy suppliers and industry. High-profile speakers will exchange views on this topic. The conference is open to the public. More information and registration at:
