OMV supplies sustainable jet fuel to Austrian Airlines

The supply contract was signed at the end of last year, and in March  OMV supplied Austrian Airlines for the first time with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for the refueling of aircraft at Vienna Airport. The sustainable aviation fuel, which is chemically equivalent to its fossil counterpart, was produced from regional biogenic raw materials such as used cooking oil at the OMV refinery in Schwechat. Compared to conventional aviation fuel, SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 percent over its entire life cycle.

At present, however, SAF sales are still manageable, but OMV intends to change that in the coming years. "OMV is implementing numerous measures to achieve its ambitious strategic sustainability goals - sustainable aviation fuel plays a key role in our transformation," says Elena Skvortsova, OMV Board Member for Marketing.

Thus, the sales volume of SAF from own production is to be increased from around 2,000 tons this year to more than 700,000 tons by 2030. The first milestone has been reached with the delivery to Austrian Airlines, says OMV board member Skvortsova.
